Violence in any way, shape, or form, is a bad look, especially if you’re a person who people look up to. The NFL seems to not care about violence, especially when it’s towards women. When is it enough for them? When will they eventually own up to their mistakes? Why did it take TMZ to make the NFL and Kansas City do something?
Unfortunately, the NFL seems to be all about second chances in this department.
Look no further than Hunt’s soon-to-be-former teammate, Tyreek Hill. In 2014, Hill pleaded guilty to choking his then pregnant girlfriend, as well as punching her in the face and stomach, and throwing her against the wall and floor.
The Chiefs looked at this in 2017 and basically said “fuck it!” The Bengals did the same with Joe Mixon. The Ravens did that in the beginning of their last season with Ray Rice. The Cowboys and all around douchebag Jerry Jones said fuck it with Greg Hardy. And just this week, the Redskins are doing it with Reuben Foster.
The NFL seems to have no problem sweeping these kinds of things (domestic violence or any other violence) under the rug. Since there was no video of Hardy or Foster, people assume it couldn’t be that bad, right? Wrooooong. Unfortunately for Ray Rice’s career and for the NFL, someone had the presence of mind to expose these frauds for who they are. Rice’s video of him knocking out his wife will forever be attached to him. And now, the same happens to Hunt who kicked and punched a woman. Whether or not she called him a racial slur doesn’t warrant him to do this.
Violence against hate doesn’t help. Hunt should know violence will do nothing compared to what silent protest will do (Kaepernick).
The thing with the Hunt thing is the Chiefs had some idea of who he was. I’m sure they knew about what happened in February. There’s no way a billion dollar franchise like the Chiefs and the NFL didn’t know this footage existed.
The NFL fucks this up constantly, and Goodell is the bozo who keeps letting these criminals play. Playing for the NFL is a privilege, not a right. These players aren’t owed anything, they have to earn it. How hard is it to not lay your hands on someone!?
People forget Mixon punching a female during an altercation in college, even with there being video evidence. Why? Was it because he was in college? What makes it different from now? Players like Mixon, Reuben, Hunt, and others thinking they’ll get away with doing these type of things are probably right. The NFL tries to cover these things up to make you forget about these fucked up events. How do Chiefs fans not care? How did they go from booing Hill to loving him because he runs fast? Fucking disgusting.
What makes everything worse is the fact that we have people running this league who knew about the tape. The Chiefs cut Hunt because he wasn’t truthful to them during their initial interview with him about what went on in that Hotel in February. I call bullshit. They got caught the same way the Ravens did. Now they’re trying to cover up their tracks.
I guess the lesson here is that if you play in the NFL, just admit you hit women. That way at least you’re not a liar, because apparently that matters more than violence.
